Bobby Jo Valentine is an award-winning folk singer-songwriter from the windswept coastline of Northern California. He writes poetic, searching songs that connect deeply with people from all walks of life. His stories are sometimes funny, sometimes moving, and always deeply resonant.
Bobby Jo is an LGBTQ+ artist who grew up in a conservative Baptist church with “strict lines and sharp edges,” and is grateful to have “emerged into a larger, kinder, more welcoming faith...one that is excited to learn, open to growth, and focused on love.” His music is intelligent and catchy with “thoughtful lyrics in the style of Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, and Bruce Hornsby.” Scroll down to hear a sample! The poetic nature and spiritual focus of his stories and songs have resulted in notable awards and a growing, loyal following around the country. He’s found a voice with original, hopeful songs about the gentle everyday spiritual awakenings of an openhearted life.
Bobby Jo’s music has twice won Song of the Year at the West Coast Songwriters’ Association, and his work has appeared on radio, TV, and feature films. He has performed artist residencies, hosted songwriting workshops, and been involved in helping communities of all types use their spaces and voices in more creative and powerful ways. His songs have been sung by choruses around the country, including the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus and the Turtle Creek Chorale.
