Easter + Holy Week

Learn more about Easter Sunday and other Holy Week events here at Puyallup UMC!

Palm Sunday
March 29 @ 12:00 PM

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week in the Christian calendar. This is the day Jesus was celebrated entering Jerusalem with the waving of palm branches.

We will hold our regular worship service times that morning at 9 AM and 11 AM, followed by a special event for the whole family: Palm Sunday Fun Day!

Everyone in the community is invited to join us that day for games, food, multiple egg hunts for all ages, and more starting at noon!

Maundy Thursday
April 2 @ 6 PM

Maundy (or Holy) Thursday is when we remember Jesus’ Last Supper on the night before his crucifixion.

We will be holding a special Tenebrae service that evening featuring the gradual extinguishing of candles to symbolize the coming darkness of Jesus’ death. It has long been a tradition for the combined choirs of Puyallup UMC and Puyallup First Presbyterian Church to lead this service.

All are welcome to come and take part in this beautiful Lenten worship experience starting at 6 PM.

Good Friday
April 3 @ 9 AM

Good Friday marks the end of Jesus’ life and his crucifixion on the cross.

Our Sanctuary and Prayer Labrinth will be available that day for self-guided prayer. We invite you to take a moment for yourself to reflect on God’s love and the meaning of the cross. The sanctuary will be open from 9 AM to 12 PM, and our Prayer Labyrinth will be open from dawn till dusk.

You can also join us later that day as we march with other Christians downtown for the annual ecumenical community Cross Walk at 4:15 pm. The starting location will be in the lot at 3rd St SW & W Pioneer. The cross is carried through the streets of town with stops at the churches of First Presbyterian, Peace Lutheran, and All Saints.

Easter Sunday
April 5 @ 6:30 AM + 9 AM + 11 AM

On Easter Sunday, we celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection and victory over death, and all are welcome to join us!

This story of God’s enduring love and the ultimate triumph of life over death is central for us as Christians. It is a message with the power to change the world.

We hope to see you at any one of three different Easter services that day at 6:30 AM (Sunrise outdoors), 9 AM (Traditional), and 11 AM (Contemporary). Visit our Easter page for more specific details.

If you can’t be there in person, you can always join us for our live stream at 9 or 11 AM. You can also watch the recordings later online.

Worshiping with US FOR THE FIRST TIME?

Puyallup United Methodist Church is a faith community that welcomes all people, beautifully diverse as God created them. If this is your first time joining us, we want you to feel welcome and blessed by worship together. Some people dress up for Easter, others dress more casually—you choose! Our church is accessible and inclusive, but not pushy or perfect—nobody is, right?

Children are always welcome to join you in the sanctuary at any of our services. Nursery care is always available on Sundays and will be offered during the 9 AM and 11 AM services on Easter.

Our church is located at 1919 West Pioneer Avenue in Puyallup, Washington (98371). Click here for Google Map Directions.
