We will be holding a special Tenebrae Worship service here at Puyallup UMC on Thursday, April 2, at 7 PM.
“The Solemn Shadows,” by Joseph M. Martin, is inspired by the medieval tradition of observing Tenebrae, a service of shadows traditionally held on Maundy Thursday.
Tenebrae is a Latin term for “darkness,” and refers to an ancient Christian tradition held during Holy Week, featuring the gradual extinguishing of candles to symbolize the coming darkness of Jesus’ death.
Together, we will reflect on the passion of Christ, carried by expressive choir music, bells, and candlelight. It has long been a tradition for the combined choirs of Puyallup UMC and Puyallup First Presbyterian Church to present this music. Please come and take part in this beautiful Lenten worship experience. All are welcome!
We are located at 1919 W Pioneer Ave, Puyallup, WA 98371.
You’re also invited to come worship with us as we reflect on the final hours of Jesus’ life on earth and look forward to celebrating his victory over death on Easter Sunday. Click here for info on our Easter Worship service times.
