Book of the Week

The Gifts of the Jews: How a Tribe of Desert Nomads Changed the Way Everyone Thinks and Feels, by Thomas Cahill, 1998.

In volume II of his series, “The Hinges of History,” Cahill begins with an ancient society in Sumer more than five millennia ago. How did their vision of birth and death differ from other early civilizations? Combining theology, history, and major Jewish figures in the Torah, the author describes the Jews' contributions to Western society and their many “gifts” including the Sabbath and the Ten Commandments.

Check back next week for the new Library “Book of The Week!”

Library Committee

The library collection is curated by our Library Committee, and funded by proceeds from the annual “Book Sale.” Our Library exists to “provide materials for the study of scriptures, Christian tradition, and the role that Christian faith plays in our lives.” Gifts of books and other materials are always accepted.

PUWF Reading Program

Also, the Puyallup United Women of Faith are proud to participate in the United Methodist Church’s Reading Program. This is a cherished tradition that brings together members to explore, share, and discuss books. It’s available to adults, youth, and children, and covers diverse genres on enlightening subjects.

A Reading Catalog is released every year with books divided into five separate categories: Education for Mission, Leadership Development, Nurturing for Community, Social Action, and Spiritual Growth. Participants are invited to track their reading progress and receive certificates towards their goals.

Feel free to contact the church office to be put in touch with our PUWF group should you wish to participate.
