Stones on the Way: Forgiveness

"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die."

Pastor Cara Scriven begins her sermon this week considering the famous line from the cult-classic film, "The Princess Bride," and the discovery its deliverer makes. She weaves Montoya's insight into this week's text (Matthew 18:15-35, the parable of the unforgiving servant) and the essential gift of forgiveness.

God is Love: A response to General Conference

Over the last week, United Methodists from across the globe met in St. Louis to set policy for the church. Light the Way - Sainthood

In a homily offered from her backyard on a snowy weekend, Pastor Cara Scriven reflects on a foundational teaching of Jesus' from Matthew 7:1-14. How do we keep ourselves from judging others, particularly in ways we don't evenly apply to ourselves? How can we see those who challenge our assumptions and preferences as opportunities to grow, and resist the chance that we'll do harm along the way?

Light the Way - Faith

This Sunday we continued to lake a look at Jesus’ teachings during the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:5-15) focusing especially upon his words on prayer.

Pastor Cara Scriven shares how an upcoming event in the life of The United Methodist Church is incorporating prayer, and how we can too easily fall into unhelpful patterns as we consider what prayer does.

Light the Way: Resistance

This week, Pastor Cara Scriven took us into the story of Jesus' temptation after 40 days of fasting in the wilderness, as found in Matthew 4:1-10. She encourages us to consider how we can resist, as Jesus does, the tendency to elevate our preferences and desires over others.
